Frequently Asked Questions

1. How is scanned text rendered?
This is determined by how Adobe does it but usually in OCR or graphics or mixture of both.

2. Can the tool convert from Word format (.doc, docx)?

This is not available in the current version of Digidocs. We are looking at offering this in a future version for organizations that require it.

3. What is the target weight of an HTML page after conversion?

This depends entirely on the individual document and type of content – i.e. text or images. The pages themselves are small but if the document has very big images these will still be the same size in HTML.

4. How are the Flash pages (ebrochure) rendered?
They are rendered as SWIF files.

5. What are some typical sizes for the flash versions
Between 20-120KB each (for the 75% and 100% versions).

6. Has there been any accuracy testing?
Yes, there has been a large amount of testing carried out by Cucumber. PDF 1.5 does not appear to work very well with the digidocs tool. From our testing we have found that the tool should convert most documents but the HTML output and accurancy of display may vary depending on the content, pdf version and shortcomings between the PDF and HTML formats.

Some editing maybe required in the tools editing interface.

7. How long does it take to convert a document
There are many variants that impact on the conversion time including type of document and content within the document as well as the hardware (i.e. physical box is faster than a virtual server).

8. Can the tool render HTML as text if it has been scanned?
We can read OCR from a tiff format which partially allows this but we are really reliant on the output of Adobe.

9. Can the site be used to convert internal documents and external documents?
Yes it can however, it will need to be hosted outside in the DMZ .

10. Is there the ability to print the ebrochure version?
Yes there is, but we recommend using the PDF version.

11. Can we convert to only an ebrochure mode or an HTML mode not both?
Yes.

12. Is it possible to convert landscape and/or portrait documents?
Yes.

13.  Does the HTML version comply with accessibility standards?
Yes.

14. Can the HTML version be indexed by Search Engines?
Yes.  The editing interface also allows the organisation to create/manage meta tags on the document.
